1. Introduction
Plotline Travel, Inc. ("we," "our," or "us") is a Delaware corporation. We operate the mobile application Plotline (the "App"). We are dedicated to making you the "Main Character" of your travels. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App and related services.
By using the App, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information to create itineraries, provide recommendations, and offer automated planning assistance. This includes:
A. Information You Provide to Us
- Account Data: Name, email address, and profile settings.
- Travel Preferences: Inputs regarding your travel style, themes, budget, and companion details.
- Saved Places: Places you save ("plot points"), including names, categories, notes, and descriptions.
- Shared URLs: Links you share from social media platforms or websites via the iOS Share Sheet.
- User Inputs: Text, preferences, and queries you input when interacting with our planning tools and AI features.
B. Information Processed via Integrations
- Social Media Content: When you share links from platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube, we send those URLs to third-party scraping services (see Section 5) to extract publicly available content such as captions, video data, thumbnails, and author information. This data is used to identify places and generate recommendations.
- Maps Data: When you share Google Maps or Apple Maps links, we parse place information directly from those URLs.
C. Automatically Collected Data
- Location Data: With your permission, we collect your location to power map views, suggest nearby places, and generate location-based itineraries.
- Usage Data: We collect analytics about how you interact with the App, including features used, screens viewed, and actions taken. This data is processed by PostHog (see Section 5).
- Crash and Performance Data: We collect error reports and performance metrics to diagnose issues and improve the App. This data is processed by Sentry (see Section 5).
3. Payment Information
We do not collect or store your credit card numbers. If we offer subscription plans, all payments are processed through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple processes your payment and provides us with a receipt token to confirm your subscription status. We do not have access to your billing details. Subscription status may be managed through RevenueCat (see Section 5).
4. How We Use Artificial Intelligence (AI)
To provide content extraction and itinerary generation, we utilize Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI technologies.
- Data Shared with AI Providers: When you share a URL or generate an itinerary, relevant data (such as scraped content, place names, travel dates, and location) is sent to our third-party AI providers: Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude. These providers process the data to extract place information and generate itinerary content.
- No Training: We have configured our API usage so that these providers do not use your personal data to train their public models, subject to their respective privacy policies.
- Consent: By using AI-powered features in the App, you acknowledge and consent to your data being processed by the AI providers named above.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
We do not sell your personal data. We share information with the following categories of service providers, each of which is contractually required to protect your data:
A. AI Processing
- Google Gemini: Processes scraped content, place data, and user inputs to extract place information and generate itineraries.
- Anthropic Claude: Used as an alternative AI provider for content extraction and itinerary generation.
B. Content Extraction
- Third-party scraping services: When you share URLs from social media platforms or websites, we use third-party content extraction services to retrieve publicly available information (captions, thumbnails, video data, metadata) from those links.
C. Infrastructure and Data Storage
- Cloud infrastructure: Your account data, saved places, and uploaded photos are stored on cloud servers hosted in the United States.
- Mapping APIs: We use third-party mapping services to geocode and enrich place data (names, addresses, categories, photos, ratings).
D. Analytics and Error Tracking
- PostHog: Collects anonymized usage analytics (feature usage, screen views, user flows) to help us improve the App. PostHog does not collect advertising identifiers.
- Sentry: Collects crash reports, error logs, and performance data to help us diagnose and fix issues. Sentry does not collect advertising identifiers.
E. Subscription Management
- RevenueCat: Manages subscription status and purchase receipts received from Apple. RevenueCat does not have access to your payment details.
6. Other Disclosures
Beyond the service providers listed above, we may share your information in the following scenarios:
- With Other Users: When you share a collection of places with another user, the recipient can view the places, descriptions, and notes you have chosen to share.
- Compliance: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of Plotline Travel, Inc., our users, or others.
7. Data Retention
- Account Data: We retain your account data, saved places, and associated content for as long as your account is active.
- After Deletion: When you delete your account, we delete your personal data from our systems. Shared place data (names, addresses, categories) that has been contributed to our shared places database may be retained in anonymized form. Deletion is processed within 30 days.
- Backups: Residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for up to 90 days, after which they are automatically purged.
8. Your Choices and Controls
- Permissions: You can revoke access to Location at any time via your device settings. Revoking location access may disable map and proximity features within the App.
- Account Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated personal data from within the App (Profile > Delete Account). If you have an active subscription, you will be prompted to cancel it through Apple's subscription management before your account is deleted, as Apple will continue billing unless you cancel directly. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we discover that a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, we will delete such information from our servers immediately.
10. International Users
If you are accessing the App from outside the United States, please be aware that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where our servers are located.
11. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy and any disputes related thereto shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App or on our website. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
